Hallo, Hola, Ciao, Merhaba, أهلا, Γεια σου, שלום, ,سلام, Βonjour!
Amsterdam is one of the most multicultural cities in Europe, and every day Taalhuis welcomes students from diverse language backgrounds, including children!
For our young learners, we have playful interactive language courses for various languages throughout the year. And every two months, we turn the school into a language playground on Saturday mornings for our Kindertaalcafé. During this event, our school becomes a place not only for play, reading, and exploration as a family, but also for connecting with other members of Amsterdam’s multicultural community. We welcome families and young language enthusiasts with a children’s book reading carousel in different languages. In the café, we offer a fun and creative workshop for children, accompanied by coffee or tea and croissants to start your day.
The next Kindertaalcafé will be on Saturday, 29 November. Since Sinterklaas is celebrated on 5 December, the theme for this edition is… Sinterklaas! We will bake pepernoten, read winter stories, and explore gift-giving traditions from different cultures. The volunteer teachers and parents will read Dutch, Greek, Italian, and Turkish books to children. Stichting Room for All will also be here, reading books and poems, and introducing everyone to the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) method.
Join us anytime between 10:00 and 13:00 on Saturday, 29 November and stay for as long as you would like! There is a lunch buffet at 12 o’clock. Feel free to arrive, leave, and come back whenever suits you best. While one or more teachers will be present, the Kindertaalcafé is happy to welcome parents and caretakers with ideas and contributions!
Does coming to Kindertaalcafé not fit into your schedule this weekend? Not to worry! Taalhuis will hold this event again in 2026 on 24 January (Knuffeldag Edition) and on 4 April (Easter Edition). Also, in January, our 12 and 6 week courses for all languages and levels will start again. If you would like to get a taste of the school before registering for a course, come to our Open Day on Saturday 13 December! Meet the teachers, test your level and follow as many trial lessons as you like. Register here.
You can find the language of your choice on our website. Don’t forget to check out the workshops and events in our school this winter. We are a team of language lovers with a thrill for text, literature, grammar, culture and coffee. We can’t wait to welcome you in one of our courses, at our events, our café and our very own library!

About Taalhuis Amsterdam
Taalhuis Amsterdam is a house for languages, located in the heart of Amsterdam, where you can learn and improve your Dutch and Mediterranean languages. The school consists of a team of language lovers with a thrill for text, literature, grammar, culture and coffee.
The school believes that learning a language is more than books, vocabulary and grammar and that many factors contribute to learning a new language. The teachers therefore teach in small groups, with as little level difference as possible, and they do their best to create a safe and ‘gezellige’ atmosphere. Classes are mostly taught in the target language, and the books are written in the target language and follow a communicative approach. The time in class is mostly used to train your speaking skills.
There are group courses, private training and tailored in-company workshops, and also various text and interpreting services. And because Taalhuis also believes that language and culture go hand-in-hand, they often organize events outside the classroom and abroad!
The lessons take place in a historical building in the vibrant De Pijp, where you’ll find a welcoming café at the old gym of the original school building. Taalhuis has its own multilingual library and bookstore, and is designed to be a space for a community of neighbours and language lovers.
